Good afternoon, Friends, Ohioans, and Lovers of Music (sorry I forgot Pennsylvanians as well)! I’ve got a few important items to share with you all! Our rehearsals next week on Monday and Thursday are both at the F.E.C. at the regular times. This is N.H.B. Music Camp Week in Ohio, so arrangements have been made for family members of the church to unlock and lock the door on both Monday and Thursday. Please thank them for their time and support as you enter and depart.

I will be passing out parts for the last selection of our 2025 Concert Series at both rehearsals this week as we begin to complete our Concert Books. Herb Albert’s “A Taste of Honey” and “This Guy’s in Love” complete our 60’s concert theme. Also please make sure you have added August 3 at 3:00 on your calendar as the replacement for our canceled performance last Sunday the 13th at the Emanuel Church.

I’m excited about the improvement we have made due to your hard work, dedication and cooperative preparation. We have kept up to a planned growth pattern which has taken our ensemble to a higher level.

Thank you for believing in me and trusting that work becomes fun as your growth and understanding in the art of music expands. Experience brings UNDERSTANDING!

Saturday August 9th

Good afternoon fellow musicians! Due to temperatures over 80 degrees and the possibility of heavy rain our performance at the Emanuel Church in Doylestown has been postponed. We have rescheduled our performance for Sunday afternoon August 3rd at 3:00. Please check your calendar and make this adjustment. Thank you for your cooperation! I’m looking forward to Monday’s rehearsal!

Garlin Watson was the son-in-law of Harvey Jackson (French horn). Unfortunately he died unexpectedly last week. Needless to say his family is devastated. Please pray for Harvey’s family to feel God’s comfort during this difficult time.

Garlin E. Watson

November 19, 1969 — July 1, 2025

Garlin E. Watson, 55, of Akron, passed away on July 1, 2025. He was born on November 19, 1969 the son of the late Hiram and Ivory Irene Watson. Garlin grew up with his family in Barberton. Garlin was a truck driver for over 25 years. He had a sense of adventure and enjoyed traveling and seeing the sights with family and friends. He had a special sense of direction and to his family he was known as the “Human GPS”. Garlin was a Classic Car enthusiast. He was a top notch mechanic and was able to fix anything. He was a man of faith and always helped others before himself.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and cousin Angela Leighton.

Garlin is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Emily L. Watson; siblings Ricky (Tina) Watson, Danny Watson, Billy (Venus) Watson, and Genie (Al) Horvath; cousin Tammy (Shawn) Lawler; mother and father-in-law Harvey and Louisa Jackson; brother-in-law Allen (Kathy) Jackson and loved and cherished Niece and Nephew Tegan and Patrick ; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, cousins, and friends that he adored.

Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, Thursday, July 10th, Newcomer Funeral Home (131 N. Canton Ave., Akron 44305) where services will be held at 6:00pm

Monday July7th F.E.C.

5:00 – Orientation Class downstairs with Jim. 6:00 strings downstairs with Jim and Elvis. Winds upstairs with Bev, Cathy and Cal. (15 minutes each with show tune). 6:45 everyone upstairs with Jim and Elvis.

6:00 – Full Ensemble upstairs

Sunday July 13th SUMMER CONCERT SERIES SHOW #1

Emanuel Church of Christ 16 Eastern Rd. Doylestown; places 2:15. Please bring your own folding chair, music stand, and instrument. You may wear shorts, hat, sunglass and comfortable shoes along with your blue band shirt. Also please feel free to bring a supply of water. DOWNBEAT is at 3:00! Friends and Family are welcome to join the audience!

Good afternoon music lovers! I’m excited as we move forward with preparation for our summer music performances. Learning five different styles of music is not an easy task. Thank you for your hard work! Our audiences will enjoy this return to the 60’s. Here is our July rehearsal schedule! As my High School Music Teacher used to say, “BE THERE OR BE SQUARE”!

June 30th – F.E.C. 5:00 Orientation Class; 6:00 – 8:00 Full Rehearsal.

July Mondays 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, F.E.C. 5:00 Orientation Class; 6:00 – 8:00 Full Rehearsal

July Thursdays 3rd, 17th, 31st; MAPS 2:30 – 4:00. 10th, 24th FE.C. 6:00-8:00; All Full Rehearsals.

July 13th Our First Performance of the summer season: Emanuel Church of Christ 16 Eastern Rd. Doylestown, OH Lawn Chair Concert …..Blue Shirt, sunglasses, hat, shorts, water ,music, (and don’t forget a lawn chair for yourself) call time 2:15…..Downbeat at 3:00.
