Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) continues its collaboration with the Friends of the Secrest Arboretum with Hot Potatoes! Blues and Swing with a Big Easy Touch on Friday, August 19, 2022 at 6:30 pm.

In the event of rain, the concert will be held at Fisher Auditorium, 1680 Madison Avenue, Wooster, OH 44691

The program is free, but registration is recommended.

About the Musicians

Kerry Kean (lead guitar, fiddle, vocals) grew up in southern Ohio. His fascination with music led him to study piano technology. He opened a piano service and rebuilding business and served as Kent State University’s resident piano technician for 16 years. Over the years he has performed in various groups including folk trios, dance and show bands, as well as jazz ensembles. In recent years blues, ragtime, folk tunes and writing his own music have become his primary focus.

Bobby Patetta (rhythm guitar, harmonica, vocals) is a singer-songwriter specializing in blues, rock and folk, and has been performing and recording on guitar, harmonica and vocals for over 50 years. Born and raised in New Jersey where he started out singing and playing in rock bands, he has also worked extensively along the Gulf Coast of Florida, playing harmonica and washboard with Rosie O’Grady’s Dixieland Band in Pensacola, guitar and blues harp in the greater Tampa area and in Ohio since 1990. He is currently performing with the Hot Potatoes band, as well as making many solo appearances. He is also known for making a joyful noise on Sunday mornings at many Unity and UCC churches in the area.

Tim Akin (upright bass, vocals), based in Hudson, has played with many bands including The Legends Band, The Descendants, The Akin Family Band, The Reunion Band and Akin for Jazz. He can be seen regularly performing throughout Northeast Ohio and has been a staple at many ORMACO performances over the years. Tim studied music at The University of Akron and with many private teachers over the years.

Every year my husband and I venture down to Lock 3 in Akron for some of their concerts. It is so much easier to do than I ever thought it would be. We have never paid for parking. Most of the concerts are free. If you do not want to bring your own lawn chairs you can rent some. Refreshments are available to buy. Just in case some of you would like to reminisce to some 70’s-80’s music I am going to post the schedule. On a balmy summer night, it’s a really good time.

The City of Akron’s Lock 3 Announces Summer 2022 Rock the Lock Concert Schedule

Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan and Lock 3, in partnership with 97.5 WONE, are thrilled to share Lock 3’s Rock the Lock summer concert series on the iconic Cleveland Clinic Akron General Stage. The season kicks off on Friday, May 27 with Into The Blue, an ELO Tribute, with Sunflurry. Lock 3’s full summer 2022 event schedule including additional concerts, jazz nights, festivals, movie nights, and more will be released on April 25.

“I’m excited to announce this year’s ‘Rock the Lock’ concert schedule,” said Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan. “Each year, this concert series brings thousands of Akronites and guests into Akron’s ‘central park’ to enjoy good music, good company, and good times. We can’t wait to entertain you again this summer so mark your calendars and come on down.”

Fridays beginning May 27 and continuing through Sept. 2, Lock 3 will host your favorite tribute bands, with gates opening at 6 p.m. and concerts beginning at 7 p.m. There will be some special concerts on Saturdays and Sundays as well. All listed concerts are presented in partnership with 97.5 WONE. Concerts are free unless noted otherwise. See the full schedule below:

On Sunday, November 14, Jahna Stanton – violinist – will be playing at Emanuel UCC in Doylestown (16 Eastern Road, Doylestown 44230). This will be our Veterans Memorial service which starts at 10:30. All are welcome to come to honor our Veterans and hear the always incredible music of Jahna Stanton. See Sandy Bee Lynn if you have any questions.

Jahna Stanton is a violinist and teacher residing in Kent, OH. She graduated with a Masters Degree in Violin Performance from Kent State University in 2020. Prior to moving to OH, Jahna received her Bachelor of the Arts degree in Violin Performance from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY. Jahna is a two-time winner of the Patricia Brady-Danzig Concerto Competition, and in 2017, had the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall as a member of the New York Youth Symphony. Jahna has been teaching private lessons since 2018, and now has a studio comprised of 24 aspiring young musicians.

The score of the symphony was adapted by the school music teacher Nelly Guilhemsans and the rehearsals to achieve this wonderful performance were carried out over 5 months, almost every day, during the 2020 school term.

The students through clapping, footsteps, snapping fingers, slapping their bodies and the bodies of the other students, achieved a mind-blowing demonstration of synchronization.

Everything was captured by the camera of a drone in the gardens of Arnaga, in front of the house that belonged to the French neo-romantic poet Edmond Rostand.
