Here we are two days away from kicking off the 2021 New Horizons of Summit and Stark Counties Zoom and Live Schedule. I could not be more EXCITED !! Jaime and I have been busy over the Holidays working hard to learn how to best use new techniques and equipment. Our goal as always is to offer all of you our very best musical experiences. We plan to use the remainder of the month of January to experiment, share , and implement some of what we have discovered and learned .
I’m sure that you have noticed that our January Zoom and Live Schedule is similar to that which we followed in the Fall. We will announce and post our Winter Schedule and all new features at our ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING on January 25th. We will meet at 7:00 using Zoom and will pack lots of news and information into 40 minutes. You will Join us using Jim’s Personal Link # which is 820 030 2594 and passcode which is Fenmo.
Even though a vaccine will be available to us soon we are increasing our virtual menu by growing our performance capabilities. Those of you who have been enjoying our Live schedule notice that for the next three weeks there are fewer Live options offered. This is for three reasons. 1). My responsibilities here at home have increased. 2). I need to use more time during this three week period to complete the change over and performance options that we want to introduce starting in February. 3). We are working hard to develop a sustainable Budget that provides you with a program that is enjoyable and musical rewarding. Hang in there with us! I’m sure you will enjoy growing with Jaime and I into a long term future of musical fulfillment.
My closing remarks are as always ones of respect and admiration. Your response and generosity throughout 2020 has been OVERWELMING. Your support has been an inspiration. I believe that each of you do in fact understand that MUSIC is the language of the human soul. I feel that I am accomplishing my purpose. Thank you!!

Hello everyone! The first week of our August schedule introduced some changes and although we had a few bumps, I was very happy with our overall improvement. Remember that we are trying very hard to move forward and center on topics that will improve everyone’s MUSICIANSHIP. Jaime and I appreciate your trust and will continue to center in on topics that will help us all grow!
These are the titles that we will be working on this week. Please make sure you bring these to all Zoom and Live Rehearsals, Sectionals, and Supervised Practice Sessions this week.

JUNE ZOOM CLASS SCHEDULE: NO WIND,PERCUSSION OR STRING CLASS FOR THE FIRST WEEK JUNE 1 – 5. We need some time off to up grade Zoom and relax! I might even get a hair cut!?! BOARD OF DIRECTOR’S ZOOM MEETING, 2:00, June 8th. Jim and Jamie’s class schedule will remain the same starting in the second week of June except for Jim’s Tuesday evening classes which will be 5:00 Baritones; 6:00 Bass Clarinets and Tuba; 7:00 Percussion. Other changes for Strings and Winds will be posted during the first week of June.
INTRODUCING “THE PLAY ALONG CORNER”. We will be adding a New Feature to our internet learning called the “PLAY ALONG CORNER”. We have been working on music tracks which will allow you to play written parts along with four part chorales. Your will receive parts for all four voices and will be able to select and learn to play any and all four of these parts as if you are a member of a quartet. We suggest that you start by counting out loud while clapping the bass line so that you learn how all three upper voices are constructed on the foundation of the bass line. More complete instructions will be distributed with other information on Monday evening June 1st and Thursday evening June 4th. (Please see below!).
PLAY ALONG MUSIC DISTRIBUTION: We are taking this opportunity to introduce you to a new friend and host for our New Horizons Program. The Board of Directors and Congregation of the “First Evangelical Church” located at 369 E. Woodsdale Ave. Akron, Ohio, have invited us to use their Church as HOME BASE! As you know returning to schools and university facilities is at this point unlikely. We are fortunate to have another friend in the community that is willing to host our activities. We are taking advantage of this opportunity by starting next week with “Baby Steps” back towards large group ensembles. We have organized two evenings, Monday June 1st and Thursday June 4th, from 5:30 until 7:00 during which you may drive into the church parking lot and be directed to a drive by music pick up stand. Simply follow the directions of the parking lot staff who will form you into a line that will pull up to a table. Connie Stinnett will hand you the Play Along Music and Instruction Sheet through your window. She will be wearing her mask and we ask you to do the same. If you would like a short tour of the building please pull into a parking space and Carrie Cunningham will be your escort through the facility. We again ask that you follow the correct best practice safe mask and hand washing protocols suggested by our State and Federal authorities. Please allow me to take a minute to thank Carrie, Connie , and Marilyn Katzmark for their help in making this introduction to our newest host possible.
You will also receive registration information for “Live Private Lessons” and “Small Group”interests. These opportunities will be provided based on interest of our membership at both the Church and at Jim Stahl’s Cavalier Studio. Coaching and teaching personnel will be assigned based on the interest response of the membership. We would like to add these opportunities to our schedules late summer and into the Fall. Please know that we will always do our best to improve our Zoom quality as we move forward towards our New Horizons “New Normal”. These in person live opportunities are not replacing our Zoom schedule put are expanding our offerings! Stay Safe! Jim
Hello New Horizons! I hope this message finds you well. This is a test run for future communications. I will post more information regarding “what to practice”. Please stay tuned! Jaime
LATEST NEW HORIZONS BOARD APPROVED SCHEDULE AND PERFORMANCE PLAN
Hello everyone! I have been in direct contact with the Ohio Public Health Department and have studied the statistical data which they are making available to the general public and to organizations such as ours. Our Board of Directors are all in agreement and in full support of compliance to all the required and suggested policies that the Local, State and Federal Governments have implemented and suggested. I’m sure that all of us agree that limiting contact at this juncture is a wise move understanding that our membership is in fact the number one target of everyone’s preventative action. Local, State and National instructions lists non-participation in large groups, right after continued exaggerated cleanliness, as EVERYONE’S smartest move! For this reason we will not be meeting for ensemble rehearsals until such a time that the “ALL CLEAR” notification is announced to the community. We will begin offering small group classes and sectional rehearsals held at Jim Stahl’s Cavalier Studio before returning to our school host sites. Our up-coming Concert performances will be rescheduled insuring that we have appropriate full ensemble rehearsal time in preparation. Posting these dates and times at this juncture would be complete guess work on my part. Please help by passing this information on to members that you may know that DO NOT USE THE INTERNET!! Carefully keep your instrument clean especially those of you who play wind instruments! Continue to stay in contact with Jaime and I and PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!
